Introduction

Education is the key to success. The only way we can make a difference in world where we live is by spreading the light of knowledge. When it comes to the availability of resources, rural sector has always suffered. Schools in urban and rural Pakistan do have a difference in character. Urban schools provide state-of-the art infrastructure and faculty resources, whereas schools in rural Pakistan lack every aspect of that."Rural Development Foundation" is an educational organization that is working towards promotion of education in the rural area of Haveli Lakha, District Okara, Punjab for the past many years.

Universal education

We started with building the first English Medium purpose built school in the town of Haveli Lakha in 2006 as a franchise of “The Educators “but soon we had to convert the school model from private to a non profit one .

Within a few years the student strength increased to 600, providing employment to hundreds of rural community members as Principal , teachers and administrative staff .

The purpose- built , spacious campus comprises of science and computer lab , activity room and library . To encourage literacy , fee structure was kept minimal and discounts were given to needy , orphans and academically high achievers . Third child of the same family studied for free , in this way families with larger number of children got free child education.

Haveli Lakha campus produced some bright students and encouraged us by student achievements as Shayan Anique , who took a Microsoft exam in 2012 and excelled . This brought our school to public light as the story was published in print media and on digital as a rural school performing well.

The pandemic of 2020 came as a huge blow to the school system and despite converting the model from private school to non profit , the Haveli Lakha campus faced a lot of turmoil in terms of student retention and financial stability of the institution.

The star school operates in the village of Wasawewala, Imparts education to around 120 students for absolutely low-income rural poor, minimal fee is charged and bright students study for free in the same family, only two children pay fee, the rest study for free
By doing the above, we are:

  • Improving basic economic conditions at local community level by giving employment to individuals of the rural area of Haveli Lakha
  • Improving social conditions at local community level by giving education to hundreds students of rural community, creating awareness in technology and advancement
  • Promoting female literacy by giving discounts in already minimal fee for girls
  • Spreading knowledge by encouraging more students to study by methods such as orphans studying for free, and third child half fee
